Project of Interest:

· I-680 – Livorna to Mt Diablo Blvd.:  Inspection of 20’ and 30’ high retaining walls, a 25’ high mechanically stabilized earthen wall, abutments, and bridge widening.  Discovered design flaws which led to changes without time loss in the schedule.

 

In Nov. 1989 an earthquake of a Magnitude 7.1 struck the area (Loma Prieta Quake of ‘89).  As a result of that quake, I was empowered to coordinate situations with other engineers, during the emergency period.  The District Construction Engineer of Alameda Co., later empowered me to resolve contract claims (3) with contractors left unresolved at the end of the emergency period in Contra Costa Co. (San Jose’, Ca.) March 1991.
